September in theaters with Backup Films



Backup Films is happy to announce the french release of three movies produced in association with Coficup :

On September the 7th,, Nanni Morreti’s We have a pope (Habemus Papam) starring Michel Piccoli, produced by Le Pacte and Sacher Film, will be released.

Following the death of the Pope, the Conclave meets to elect his successor. A cardinal is chosen but seems unable to bear the weight of such a responsibility. Is it anxiety? Is it depression? Does he feel inadequate? While the faithful are waiting for the new Pope to appear on the balcony in St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican seeks ways to come through the crisis. On September the 14th, Yann Samuel’s War of the Buttons starring Mathilde Seigner, Eric Elmosnino, Alain Chabat and Fred Testot, produced by One World Film, will be released. The film has been supported by Backup and Coficup.

This remake of a French classic follows the battle of kids from two rival villages in the southern French countryside in the sixties. Watch the french trailer here.

Finally, Ismaël Ferroukhi‘s Free Men starring Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) and Michael Lonsdale (Of Gods and Men), produced by Pyramide Production and supported by Coficup will hit the screens on September the 28th.

German occupied Paris, 1942. Younes, a young Algerian immigrant, is arrested by the police and accepts to spy on their behalf at the Paris Mosque, which is suspected of helping Resistance fighters and Jews. In the Mosque, Younes meets Algerian-born singer Salim Halali. Touched by his voice and personality, he becomes friends with him, discovering soon afterwards that he is Jewish. Faced with the surrounding barbarity, Younes, who has no political education, gradually turns into a freedom activist. Watch the movie trailer here
