Chereau announces his long-awaited Napoleon

2006-05-22

Following a lengthy rights-untangling process, Chereau's Azor Films has acquired the rights to the book Betsy And The Emperor by Staton Rabin as well as the rights to the scripts developped by Charles Gassot's Telema in association with TF1. Chereau intends to deliver a personal vision of the last days of the Emperor, freely inspired from Rabin's novel.

Producers' representatives Backup Films are in Cannes drumming up financing and structuring the project as a UK/France/Germany co-production. Howard Rosenman, Colleen Camp and Fonda Snyder will remain attached as producers to the Chereau film, which is now produced by Azor, although it is still unclear whether Al Pacino, who was attached to play Napoleon, will be involved.
